16th Annual Meeting Abstract: Studying the brain-gut axis in psychiatry and neurology
Chairs: Jill Rasmussen MD; Ron Marcus MD
Recently, the gut microbiota has been implicated in a variety of CNS conditions including depression and stress-related disorders, autism, dementia, schizophrenia, and Parkinson’s disease. This session will briefly review the gut-brain axis and its regulation by the microbiota in both psychiatric and neurological illnesses. Recent clinical interventional studies using probiotics as the treatment in psychiatry and neurology disorders will also be discussed. Speakers will present current methodological approaches and challenges in conducting psychobiotic clinical studies.
